Flowers and Hearts Card

 Hello again, thank you for stopping by!  Today I've got a rather feminine card full of flowers and hearts.

This was a very easy card to make.  I started by cutting three of the heart borders, and kept the die cut hearts together with them by using some Press 'N Seal to hold the hearts.  I only saved them for the bottom two borders.  I also staggered the heights of the borders, so there would be three tiers.  I glued the bottom two heart borders to the largest one.  I used some Distress Oxide ink in Kitsch Flamingo to colour in the hearts, and then I glued them into position in the bottom two borders.  I popped the heart border up onto double sided foam tape for added dimension.

The flowers and leaves were die cut from scraps of cardstock I had previously coloured with a variety of inks.  I mixed and matched the centres of some of the flowers, and layered up others. I love the whimsical look these flowers have!

I adhered the heart border to my card front, and then placed all the flowers and leaves behind it, tucking them in where I could.  The sentiment was foiled in my laminator with gold foil, and then popped up on foam tape and adhered just below the flowers.

Love Truck Bunny

Hello again everyone! I've got a fun little card today that I think could possibly be used for a masculine birthday.

I started this card by creating a background for the truck and bunny to star in.  I'm terrible at drawing so please excuse my very amateurish background!  But I just wanted you to get the impression the bunny was driving down a dirt road, so hopefully, that came across.  The bunny was stamped from the Trevor and Friends stamp set (he's the one at the left elbow of Trevor), and I was careful to wipe away the ink from his arms when I stamped him.  I could still faintly see where his left arm would have been, so I used a Copic pen to fill that arm back in.  After colouring him in with Copic markers, I cut him out.  

I die cut the Love Truck from white cardstock and coloured it in with Copic markers, and I also cut extra hearts to have fall out the back of the truck. I used silver foiled cardstock for the bar across the bottom of the truck.  Once I had the truck assembled, I inserted the bunny into the driver's seat and glued him in place so it looked like he was holding the steering wheel.  I popped the truck up on foam tape for added dimension and then attached it to the background panel. Then I used glue to attach the hearts, making it look like they were falling out the back as he raced by.  The sentiment was cut from the Black & White sentiment sheet, and I just thought it was a really fun and different sentiment to go with the image.

For the inside of the card, I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment with black ink.  I had stamped and coloured in the Trevor stamp image onto Neenah 80# Solar White cardstock, and coloured it in with my Copic markers. Finally, I fussy cut the image out and glued it into place above the inside sentiment.

Getting the Most out of Your Background Dies *VIDEO*

Hello everyone,  I'm glad you're here.  I've got a video for you today that is full of ideas on how to use those background dies in creative ways to get more value from them.  I love background dies as they are usually beautiful and add a real impact to our cards.  But they are a significant investment, and I like to make sure I'm using mine in as many ways as possible.  I've got lots of examples in my video for you, but below are just two of the cards you will see me create in the video.

Mosaic Lotus Card

Hello and welcome back!  I've got a card today that uses a new mosaic die from Paper Rose Studio and I love the artistic look it gives. 

Supplies Used: Mosaic Lotus Metal Cutting Die 28504, Sketchy 6x6 Paper Collection 25252, Lots and Lots of Rectangles 2.0 Metal Cutting Die 22177, 19499 Clear Crystal Mix.  Other supplies: Copic markers (RV25, RV23, RV21, RV10, G94, G82), Nuvo Glitter Accents in Fresh Snowfall.

I first cut the mosaic die from Neenah Solar Crest 80# cardstock, and carefully saved all the lotus pieces and the outer frame.  I find it easiest to do this by placing a piece of Press N' Seal wrap on the back of the die once it has been cut and then carefully lifting this off the die.  I glued the frame to a 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece of 110# white cardstock. Then I coloured in the lotus pieces with Copic markers as listed above, trying to keep the darker tones at the base of the petals.  I added a little of the Nuvo Glitter Accents to the tips of the petals and once they were dry, I glued the petal pieces into place within the frame.  

For the background, I used two different pieces of the Sketchy paper pack.  I chose a predominantly blue piece for the water, and the more purpley-green one for the landscape.  I die cut these and again used the Press N' Seal to keep the pieces in place.  Then I glued these pieces into the frame.

I used the largest of the Lots and Lots of Rectangles die to cut the outer frame from white cardstock, and then trimmed this down so there was an even border all around the etched markings.  This card ended up being just a bit smaller than an A2 sized card, but I love the look of the triple matting.  I glued this outer frame to a card base, and trimmed the card base to match the frame.  Then I glued the mosaic piece to the center of the card.  Finally, I added a few of the Clear Crystal Mix over the background and on the flowers to make it look like water drops. I haven't added a sentiment to this card because I'm not sure yet how I will use it.  I think it would work well for so many different occasions, so I've left it blank for now but a sentiment strip would be an easy addition when the time comes.

Protea Floral Card

Hello everyone!  I've got a floral card today where I've used a rather generic sentiment.  I think this card could be used for so many occasions and I love to have cards like that in my stash, as I usually don't know on what occasion I'll use them.

Paper Rose Studio supplies used: Slimline Protea Bouquet Clear Stamp 28222, Doodle Flower Coverplate 1 Metal Cutting Die 20553, Black & White A5 12pc Sentiment Sheets 19023. Other supplies: Copic markers, Prismacolour pencil crayons, black Sakura Glaze pen, gold beads, Simon Says Stamp Fog ink.

This is a beautiful slimline stamp, but I've used it on a 4 1/2" x 6" card and it fills the card front perfectly.  I stamped the image onto Neenah Solar Crest 80# cardstock, using the Fog ink.  There's a lot of detail in the stamp, and I didn't want to use black ink as it would have significantly darkened the image. I left the stamp in my stamp positioner for the time being. I used Copic markers to colour in the image, and although I didn't keep a list of the markers used, here is a list of the ones I do remember using. (RV25, RV23, RV21, RV10, RV69, RV19 for the Protea flower; Y19, Y08, Y02 for the yellow flowers; E97, E93, E01, BV08, BV04 for the three flowers at the bottom.  I added some yellow prismacolour pencil to these as well, and used the black glaze pen to add dots to the centers; YR27, YR23, Y08, BV02, V15 for the coneflower type flowers at the top. I added purple pencil crayon to these as well; the leaves were done with YG67, YG17, YG03, YG01, G94, G82, BG75, BG72 and BG70). After I had coloured the image in with markers, I went back in and added touches of pencil crayon as noted above to highlight some of the flowers.  Once I was satisfied with the colouring, I placed the image back in my stamp positioner, and stamped it again with the Fog ink, to help bring back some of the details.  Then I fussy cut out the image which wasn't too hard to do, but I don't mind fussy cutting.  

 Next, I die cut the Doodle Flower coverplate die from 110# white cardstock and attached it to my 4 1/2" x 6" card base in the center.  I popped the floral image up on foam tape and adhered it down towards the left of my card.  

I gold foiled the sentiment strip, using my laminator.  I love that sentiment! It's just perfect for so many occasions.  After foiling it, I trimmed it down and attached it with foam tape over the floral image, offsetting it to the right.  Finally, I added some gold beads for a little extra shine.
